Coed Varsity Track · VP Track Runs the Roost

They had to move the meet start up 2 and a half hours due to weather concerns but alas the VP Varsity T&F team was able to get in their 1st competition of the season in Fort Collins at the Runners Roost Invite.

Ladies first the saying goes, as the resurrected* (this event was to be cut for girls after 2018) sprint medley team of Lainey, Ione, Lakeyjanay and Jadelynn ran themselves into a top ten finish with a great early season time. In the 100m Mikayla ran to a top 10 finish with a great heat win with impeccable mechanics and placing 7th overall with Kaya coming in the top 20 with a 15th place in her 100m debut. In the 200m Jadelynn jumped out to a good start with a top 20 finish as she placed 15th overall.

In the 800m our mid distance crew of Andrea and Tristyn ran to great early season PR’s with both finishing in the top 25. Watch out for these two as they battle for the team mid distance crown. Burba returned a little later with an excellent performance in the 1600m picking up right where she left off last season, the girl knows how to fight.

Over in the field it was Ashiah who finished in the two 20 in the shot with the teams best throw but it was freshman Mikenzie who had the best throw in the discus. Sister Mikayla finished 4th in the high jump with compatriot Raina taking the event in 5-6. Both are now set securely in the state rankings so we will see them in May over the bar. Branch also jumped her way into the state rankings in the long jump in her first ever appearance in the event.

Two runners up and two spots earned in the relays for state rankings came by way of the 4×2 and 4×4 relays. Lainey, Raina, Lakeyjanay and Mikayla ran away with their heat in the 4×2 proving the 4×2 as the top team relay so far. In the 4×4 Lainey took over lead leg duties for Raina who now moves to anchor. Joined by Mikayla and fellow hoopster now trackser Kaya the team ran 2nd overall in only their first time together. The VP team finished 10th of 23 overall in the team rankings.

Now can I talk about the boys….I say can I talk about dem boys! Ive only been waiting for the development the staff has been putting into the boys team to finally show and show it did. Starting with two top 20 finishes in the 100m with Jaderris and Flippin with an 11.8 and 11.9 respectively. In the 200m it was Dylan with a top 20 finish and Sammy making his 2019 debut finishing in the top 15.

The mid distance crew of Terron, Jordan and Will ran well in the 800m and showed they’ve been putting in good early season work. In the field Latrell finished just out of the top 20 in his first long jump of the season. Justin moved so close to the 4o foot barrier in the shot with his top 20 finish.

If you missed it coach actually fainted on the bus handing out ribbons…..yessirrrrr the VP Boys had 3 top 10 finishes in the relays. For the first 4 weeks of practice all we have been saying is that if the solid group that started together stays together then we can compete. Competed they did finishing 6th in the 4×2 with Sayo, Dylan, Sammy and Rashawn and 4th in the 4×1 with Dennis, Jaderris, Jazz and Tamar. They capped things off with a strong gutsy performance in the only relay that really matters the 4×4 of Tamar, Dylan, Jordan and Latrell finishing 10th but proving they have the talent to really make an impact. Not only did they boys finish well but two relays ended the day ranked in the state rankings. The boys are now poised to do some good things and make a run toward the state championships for the first time in school history.
